By Mustapha Jarju

Personnel of the police Intervention (PIU) who were on patrol within the Kanifing Municipality on the 25th of September 2022 arrested a 20 and 21-year-old painter and tailor (name withheld) residents of FajiKunda respectively, for having suspected stolen properties, arms, and ammunition in their possession.

Police spoke person Binta Njie confirmed to this medium that the live ammunition recovered by the police from the suspects was sent for ballistic examination. A broken flat screen and its cable, two (2) receivers and a cutlass, and two pairs of scissors were also recovered from the two suspects, PRO Njie said.

He added that the suspects are currently on bail as the matter is still under investigation. Efforts made by this reporter to confirm the kind of arms and the amount of ammunition recovered by the police in this incident remain futile, the police PRO categorically cleared that information cannot be disclosed for now, as the investigation into the matter deepens.

The report received by this medium has disclosed that the PIU officials who were on patrol found the suspects at a junction called Five (5) Junction in FajiKunda, where they were sited at a compound gate which is a rented compound where they are residing.

The source added that the person who rented the compound is a taxi driver who went for the farming season in Nuimi and he was not around when the incident happened but he returned to report himself to the police upon hearing the incident. “The two boys arrested were initially released by the police because the person believed to own the ammunition ran away upon receiving the information that the bullet he kept in the house was seized by the police,” source confirmed.
