High Court Acquits & Discharges Bob Keita

By Staff reporter

After two years, a marathon trial on a single charge of rape, Boubacar Keita was declared free by the High Court after the Solicitor General at the Attorney General Chambers filed a Nollie prosecution asking state prosecutors to withdraw the charge.

Prior to that development, the defence counsel Lamin S Camara applied for the withdrawal of his objection on the admissibility of the DNA results which were conducted in Ghana.

His request was granted by the presiding judge, Justice Jallow who also ordered further expansion on the test result by a Ghanaian forensic expert, Superintendent Edward Kofi Abban.

Based on the sample available in the lab, forensic expert Mr. Abban concluded that there was not enough genetic material to substantiate that the accused Boubacar Keita and Pa Modou Jum are the biological fathers of the late baby Muhammad.

The witness maintained his testimony when quizzed by state counsel Patrick Gomez whether the analysis of the samples indicated that Mr. Keita is not the biological father of the baby, Superintendent, Abban said he is not expressly supposed to give a direct answer but the analysis was done in a population of three billion which they looked at and ruled out Mr. Keita as the biological father of the baby.

The capital witnessed a somber moment of unraveling, revealing the most important piece of evidence about the deceased baby at the center of the 2-year long rape trial. supporters, families, friends, and loved ones thronged the law courts complex to show solidarity.

Twenty-nine-year-old Bob Keita was accused of raping an underage girl two years ago, a charge he strongly denied, since then he has been languishing at the state central prisons at Mile ii.

A protracted trial that attracted public attention both at home and abroad finally comes to conclusion paving the way for the accused Mr. Keita, now a freeman to start rebuilding his life.
