Following the death of 69 children, Honourable Madi Ceesay, National Assembly Member for Serrekunda West Constituency has advised that there is a need to set up a special committee to thoroughly investigate the Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and related issues in the country.

Speaking to The Voice, on Thursday, Honourable Madi Ceesay said: “A special committee should be set up to thoroughly investigate the matter and that investigation should be as quickly as possible because this has to do with people’s lives.”

He also said the number is growing, first, it was 66, and now 69 which is a very alarming and devastating thing.

“Therefore, the issue of Acute Kidney Injury needs attention and the attention should be quick. Whether it is the National Assembly, the government, or the executive of the government itself, actions must be taken as quickly as possible because Acute Kidney Injury is denying people’s rights.

“One of the very candid rights is the right to life. A quite number of children who died could be future leaders so the matter should be thoroughly investigated and anybody found wanting should face the full force of the law.”

He as well advised the parents that lost their babies to come together and demand justice. He added that if they failed, then they can seek legal way. “Seeking justice individually might not help because the way things are going it seems the government is responsible.”

Meanwhile, he revealed that the National Assembly select committee on health has started reacting to it, and very soon they will come up with their findings.
