Honorable Foday N.M Drammeh, former National Assembly Member for Tumana Constituency has urged the Government of The Gambia to update the public about the 734 blocks of cocaine which have been discovered by the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG over 20 days ago.
In an interview with The Voice on Monday, he said: “If the government did not come out and update the public about the issue, and their level of the investigations, then they are part of the drug scandal. This is serious and it is uncalled for. We cannot allow the Gambia to be used as a home for drugs.”
He added: “The authorities have to come out and tell us what is happening regarding the 734 blocks of cocaine. If any investigation is going on, how far with that investigation? We need to know this because this is not the first time such criminal activity has been committed in The Gambia.”
He noted that the only time the government comes out to comment is when the issue has to do with the president but apart from that, they keep quiet and rely on saying the matter is at the court so they cannot make any comments.
He stressed that Gambians need answers to the question about the 734 blocks of cocaine being seized in The Gambia.
“I suspect that there are individuals in the government who are part of this notorious activity that is happening in our country because such quantity of drugs cannot come to the country and nothing has been done about it,” he noted.
He also suggested that there should be a press briefing about the issue of drugs discovered in the country and all related activities.
