Honourable Halifa Sallah former National Assembly Member for Serrrekunda, and Secretary General of the People’s Democratic Organization for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) has revealed that the leadership of PDOIS is the government in waiting if the people desire to entrust their trust and power to them.
Speaking at the press conference recently at the party’s headquarters, Mr. Sallah spoke on a wide range of issues bordering on the way forward for the party and the country as well, while challenging citizens to make their independent analysis ahead of the next elections.
“We mentioned as early as 19th January 2022 that we will begin this new journey and we will not be silent in gauging, scrutinizing, and restraining the government in office to do what is in line with the aspirations of the people. There is no need to be in a hurry. We will be there as we always do in the interest of the Gambian people. They may engage us for a debate as that is what PDOIS intends to do in the coming four to five years to put issues in front,” Mr. Sallah assured.
According to him, the leadership of the party meets and engages in vigorous conversation within themselves to find out why the party is where it is, noting that whether that is relevant or not is an existential question that is no longer an academic exercise but a question of life and death for the party and the nation as well.
“Our conversation is not ordinary and we would have wanted to wait until we complete our exercise before facing you but within our ranks, it is made clear that the Gambian people are still in need of a voice of clarity to be able to make sense of what is happening.
“The Gambian people are asking for a conversation and PDOIS has the institutional memory of having been here in the 1st Republic, 2nd Republic, and a transition that no one expected furthermore it is well suited to open up this new conversation on the way forward for the Gambian people,”
Sedia Jatta, chairperson of the party said, after the parliamentary elections the central committee of the party was tasked with the responsibility to map the political landscape which is not yet completed but there is pressure coming in that demands for the conference to clarify the political situation coming and to begin a new process of speaking to the people.
