Mansa Konko Area Council on Tuesday 1st October 2022 officially inaugurated a newly constructed market in Soma, Lower River Region (LRR).
The market is funded by the African Development Bank under the Senegambia Corridor Project, located at Sare Mawdo along the Senoba-Casamance route.
Deputy Chairperson of Mansa Konko Area Council Almamo AK. Ceesay said the newly constructed market project was sponsored under the Senegambia Corridor Project but dedicated to the Mansa Konko Area Council to oversee the development of the market. He called on the people to work closely with the council for a collective bargain.
“We are officially opening this market today; it is our mandate to give the keys to the business owners who show their interest to start a business in this market and we already did that. All those who have a shop in this market can start their business now,” he said.
The Chief Executive Officer of Mansa Konko Area Council Seedy K. Touray appealed to the people within the area to make the best use of the facility, to see the facility as their own, and serve as a source of living for the people of LRR and the satellite villages.
CEO Touray said, “if this market is developed it is for you people, we give that task to you who will be using this market facility.” He added that there will be continued support from the Mansa Konko Area Council while calling on the support of the Gambia Police Force to give security to the people in the market.
