Four teams of Gambia Football Federation namely; Hawks FC, PSV Wellingara, Red Scorpions, and Jeshwang United that won the 2021/22 leagues are yet to receive their payment after winning The Voice is reliable informed.
Baboucarr Camara, Communication Director Gambia Football Federation confirmed the non-payment of the teams to The Voice in a telephone interview on Monday.
He disclosed that the teams are not yet paid because GFF is responsible for the whole operational cost of the league, such as payment of transport to the team, and payment of referees among others, which cost GFF D15 million per season.
Camara further stated that delays in paying the winning teams their cash prizes was as a result of the federation’s recent spending on the Under 20 and Under 23 national teams which all the matches were played outside due to the status of the Independence which is undergoing renovation,
He explained that payment outside the country is very expensive and those matches cost The Gambia Football Federation D13 million.
“We are doing everything possible to pay the team when we get the money,” Camara told The Voice.
“Since we won the leagues, we are yet to receive the cash prize in our account from the GFF; we have made all efforts for the payment to reach our account. We were hoping to receive the payment before the election or after the election, but up to date we are not paid, “an anonymous team official.
Hawks won the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) First Division League after defeating The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) 3-1 during a game played at Independence Stadium in Bakau in August.
PSV Wellingara was on Wednesday, August 24 crowned Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Second Division League champions following their goalless draw during their final league against Red Hawks FC played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
Red Scorpions have won the 2021/22 Gambia Football Federation(GFF) Women League One title after defeating Banjul based-club, City Girls one-nil during a match played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
Jeshwang United FC was crowned champions of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Women’s League Division Two despite being defeated 1-0 during their final game of the league against Kinteh’s FC.
The New-Jeshwang-based team won the league after collecting 39 points in 18 matches.
They won 12, drew 2, and lost 3 matches after playing eighteen games.
