The Chief of Upper Nuimi has lauded the government for the construction of Nuimi Hakalang Road and the expansion of the electricity supply to the people of Upper Nuimi.
Chief Momodou Chatty Cham was speaking to The Voice in Kerewan, as part of efforts of gauging the opinions of traditional rulers ahead of 2022 Meet the People Tour by president Adama Barrow.
He noted that the ongoing road works connecting Buniadou via Albreda to Kuntair and from Albreda via Medina Serigne Mass to Bangali are progressing steadily.
Chief Cham asserted that the intervention of the Barrow-led government has transformed the lives of people in Upper Nuimi, citing electricity expansion, provision of community ambulances, boosting transportation for farm produce, and payment of monthly allowances to alkalolu among others.
He, therefore, called on the government to construct inter road network, citing from Hakalang highway via Bakalarr connecting several communities to ease the movement of goods and services.
Commenting on food production, the Upper Nuimi chief called on the government to invest heavily in agriculture while he challenged youths and private sectors to support food production, value addition, and contribute to employment creation.
Chief Cham advised youths to make the best use of opportunities provided by the government and desist from all forms of violence and let respect the rule of law.
He noted that the tour will provide the opportunity for President Barrow to interact with farmers to gather information and share good policies and programmes for harnessing food production and economic development, through creating market outlets for farm produce.
