Fabba Jammeh, Director of Employment at the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment has emphasised the need for the government of the Gambia to invest in youth in other to make them responsible citizens.
Mr. Jammeh made this remark, on Monday, 14th of November, 2022 during the launching of the migration strategy and Action Plan and three other documents by the IOM, held in Senegambia.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Jammeh said “There are some issues which relate to the youth population, and relate to the democratic dividend. The government needs to invest in youth to ensure that we make them responsible citizens but also productive citizens so that the choices we make are in line with national development.
The “Gambia is a youthful population and that requires governments attention but also resource allocation to the youth to ensure that we see their full participation in economic development.”
He also said there is an issue of democratic dividend with the amount of the youthful population. Adding that the youth will grow, they will become adults and would take over responsible positions in the country.
“Therefore to manage the youth population, I think is something very important for the government and not only the government but our key partners and the private sector as well. It becomes the business of everybody to ensure that we have a state to develop our youth sector,” Jammeh said.
