Belgium Friends of The Gambia (BFoTG) over the weekend distributed 52 bags of 50kg of rice to their sponsor students of 50 at Jambangjelly School in West Coast Region, 41 bags of rice of 50kg to 48 sponsor students from St. Therese Lower Basic School, 55 bags of rice to 85 sponsor students from senior secondary Schools and Upper Basic Schools within KM.
Speaking at the distribution venues in Jambangjelly and Nyodema Nursery School campus in Kotu over the weekend, the chairman of the Belgium Friends of The Gambia (BFoTG), Patrick De Vos expressed his disappointment for student’s failure to send their school academic report to their sponsors in Belgium.
“If your sponsors in Belgium are fighting to get something for you, you should also try to make them know your academic performance in school because these items we are giving to you, is not coming from me (Patrick) alone. We have good friends in Belgium who are contributing to change your lives,” Mr. Patrick explained.
He reminded parents that their children’s education lies in their hands and he advised the students to take their education seriously because as he put it, it is through education that can determine their future career.
For his part, the head teacher of Jambangjelly Nursery School, Buba Jammeh commended their Belgium friends through the organization’s chairman, Patrick De Vos for their continued assistance to his school for the past years.
Mr. Jammeh hailed the sponsors for the concern they have for the future leaders of The Gambia and he promised to take good care of the donated items.
Mr. Lamin Darboe, a senior teacher at Nyodema Nursery school on behalf of the parents apologized to the student’s sponsors for not receiving the academic report of their sponsor students.
“Let me expressed my sincere thanks and appreciation to the donors for their annual donation and I assured you (sponsors) that the items you donated will be put into better use,” Mr. Darboe assured.
