The Ministry of Environment has embarked on its annual retreat program meant to review and assess the staff on the success of the Ministry during the year. And to as well measure progress, share ideas, and draft solutions to mitigate the problems during implementation.
Speaking at the opening of the five-day retreat, Alieu Njie, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Environment noted that this retreat marks the end of the fourth quarter and approaching the commencement of 2023.
He noted that the annual retreat became the key part implementation process of the environment and resilience development project ERDP which is under the MOE.
He observed that the Gambia ERDP annual retreat has been happening since 2019 to serve as a mechanism for improving coordination to enhance sector performance.
“Over the years it has evolved into a tool for mutual accountability, and transparency for the project its implementation, and development partners to ensure efficient and core effective use of resources to maximize the benefit for Gambian people and the rest of the community,” he explained.
Overall, he said, the retreat aims to access performance develop new plans, and improve implementation of 2023 planning as well as aimed at improving mutual accountability between government partners and relevant stakeholders. More so, he added that it is also to develop the 2023 work plan and budget identified problems hindering successful implementation of the project plan, and come up with solutions.
The recommendation emanated from this retreat will develop or guide the next annual plan, to improve equity and distribution equity in the utilization of the services and financial protection to move the project which is to bring transformative change, he told the staff at the gathering.
