United Purpose, partners’ organised cooking demonstration on cooking stoves

Njawara Agricultural Training Centre in partnership with United Purpose under GCCA + WEST AFRICA project dubbed ‘Innovation for Climate Smart Agriculture’ on Tuesday organised cooking demonstration for women of Njoufen in Kerewan, North Bank Region as officials advance to organise similar training for the communities in Kekuta Kunda and other settlements in the region

Lamin Manjang Project Manager, United Purpose underscored the significant of the capacity building for women on the use of improved cooking stoves in mitigating the effect of climate change. He disclosed that the project will support the community in increasing taps and watering cans and the fencing of the vegetable garden in Kekuta Kunda and Kubandar.

Alpha Sey Project Manager, Green Economy Project at Njawara Agricultural Training Centre also dilated on the importance of the training which he said would contribute immensely on the high dependent on forest.  Project Manager Sey used the occasion to call on beneficiaries to promote and value the utilisation of stoves, with the ultimate objective of attaining health of mothers and children.

Haddy Joof President of Value Chain Actors platform and women leader of Njoufen recalled how women suffer a lot in collection of fuel wood, simply due to deforestation. Madam Joof appealed to  households head to support women’s with improve cooking stoves,  noting  that the availability of stoves at household level  would obviously ensure timely food preparation and address domestic fire.

Haddy Cham of Njoufen and Jonsaba Jawara Women Leader of Kerewan hailed the organisers for their invaluable contribution in women empowerment and explained how the use of stoves would contribute to reduction of greenhouse emissions and mitigate effect of climate change.
