Former junta member and one-time minister of Local Government and Lands, Yankuba Touray will know his fate as the Gambia Court of Appeal set today to deliver judgment in his appeal.
Mr. Touray who was sentenced to death by hanging by the high court in 2021 has filed an appeal before the court of appeal challenging the lower court decision after he was found guilty of taking part in the murder of Ousman ‘Koro’ Ceesay a former junta finance minister who mysteriously died in June 1995. Touray however denied any wrongdoing throughout the entire two years of his prosecution by the state prosecutors.
His defence attorney has earlier filed an appeal before the court of appeal urging the court to overturn the decision of the lower court.
The panel of judges will today decide whether the embattled former junta member was wrongly convicted by the high court or not before making a unanimous decision.
