Petrol Attacker Convicted

The Regional principal magistrate Anna O. Mendy recently convicted Lamin Bob of Sami Village in Lower Nuimi District   to pay a fine of D 5000 with a compensation of D 500, 000 to the victim Sulayman Cessay, for setting him ablaze with petrol that resulted to grievous bodily harm.

The regional Principal Magistrate A O. Mendy during the ruling said that the convict Lamin Bob was charged and convicted under section 214 of the Criminal Code Cap 10 :01 Volume 3, Laws of The Gambia 2009 that states a person who unlawfully does grievous harm to another commits a felony, and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of seven years.

However, she said the criminal justice system is very rich in mitigating undue suffering to convicts who pleads for mitigation which she noted persuaded her.

‘I hereby invoked sections 29 of the Criminal Code and I order the convict Lamin Bob to pay a fine of D 5000 in default to serve two years imprisonment with a compensation of D 500, 000 to the victim, Sulayman Cessay and in default to serve two years imprisonment. All the sentences shall run consecutively, Magistrate A. O. Mendy ruled.
