The Wassu KAFO, a prominent local NGO in the fight against harmful traditional practices recently held a press briefing as part of their crusade in the fight against harmful traditional practices in the country.
Established in 1987 the advocacy group has been involved in many areas of development to complement the government in national development which includes education, health, and other crucial sectors of development.
Programme coordinatorSegaga Sanyang explained the statistic gathered by the organisation which includes child marriage after an extensive survey in most parts of the country which was later adopted by the organization.
According to him, the studies show that younger ages were more willing and ready to end the practice compare to the older age who are more positive.
Saliue J Kandeh senior trainer of the oorganization spoke on the focus group on the qualitative aspect of the study which he said was based on the quantitative and qualitative aspect
He also highlighted the challenges and consequences of child marriage in the four key areas during their studies which bordered on premarital sex and sexual violence among others.
To break the silence, he revealed that the parents find it difficult to talk to their children about their sexual reproductive health while calling for aggressive sensitisation, particularly in rural communities.
