United Purpose under the EU-funded project recently installed a solar mobile charging facility for the community of Kubandar in Upper Badibou, North Bank Region.
The installation of solar mobile charging was in fulfillment of the promise of one of the implementing partners ‘JOKALANTE’ group in Senegal. The charging facility will contribute immensely in addressing long-distance travel to Farafenni to charge mobile phones which will also ease communication challenges.
Lamin Manjang Project Manager, United Purpose said the project attaches great importance to easing the burden of women producers to enable them to have access to market information systems and boost income.
He noted that this will reduce the burden on women and give them the opportunity to venture into more economic opportunities.
Manjang also seized the moment to call on beneficiaries to ensure proper upkeep of the facility to serve the purpose it was meant for. He revealed that the initiative aimed at complementing government efforts in livelihood development and job creation.
Fang Jenung Sanyang women’s leader thanked the donor for the foresight and noted that the absence of electricity in charging mobile phones has posed a lot of challenges for women. She said the lack of mobile charging facilities affected communication and social cohesion.
Lang Mamburay the village alkali said all efforts and means will be developed for proper upkeep, as it has come to address communication challenges. The alkali asserted that it would contribute immensely to strengthening security and called on people to be proactive in providing such information to security officials in the quest to enhance national security.
He used the occasion to call on the government to construct a road linking to the highway and extension of electricity supply to help ease movement and economic empowerment drive.
