Assembly ends the fourth ordinary session of the 2022 legislative year

The National Assembly yesterday wrapped up sittings for the fourth ordinary session after six weeks of sittings with a lot of consideration and approval of the estimated revenue and expenditure for the fiscal year 2023.

The Speaker of the National Assembly Fabakary Tombong Jatta made the declaration after Standing Order 5(I) was moved to adjourn the session to indefinite.

He noted that the unique sittings of the assembly’s ordinary session allow members to discuss and debate on cross-cutting issues which require the attention of the executive.

The provisions of Standing Orders 13 and 51 allow the majority leader to move a motion.

Billy G. Tunkara, Majority Leader and member for Kantora gave the overview of the fourth ordinary session starting with the budget session from   November 14 to 22 December 22, 2022.

According to him, under the period review, the assembly considers and adopts records of votes and proceedings of the daily sittings required by standing order 35 surplus 2.

He stated that in line with section 77 sub section 4 of the 1997 constitution the assembly is a quest to get better scrutiny and accountability to continue the thoughtful interaction with executives administering oral questions and answers sessions with ministers.
