GDC Leader talks Tough at Congress

The Secretary-General and Leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress has made a strong warning to the party members and top executive during the party’s congress in Jarra Soma where he talked on a wide range of burning issues undermining the progress of the party.

Addressing hundreds of party militants and sympathers on Saturday, the Secretary General of the party Mama Kandeh opined that those who have joined the party to look for money can go because the party has no money to keep them.

“We are not afraid. Everyone can go and even if we are left with one person, the party will move on. If you come to GDC to look for money, leave, there is no money here. Even if we are left with three people, we will go to the Statehouse,” Mr. Kandeh told the delegates in a weird voice.

The party leader also explained how the party has empowered youth and women but was quick to explain how that empowerment was seriously abused by some party militants for their selfishness.

However, he was quick to add that the party will still continue to promote empowering youth and women as always part of the party’s agenda since inception.

Kandeh also advised members to desist from tarnishing the image of the party which he said will not stop the party from propagating its agenda to the Gambians.

Meanwhile former National Youth President, MC Cham Jr. Is not part of the party’s executive for the first time as he applied for the position of a Deputy Party Leader, the position he later withdrew during the congress after intense negotiations which led to the selection of Momodu ABS Mboob.

Prominent faces like Hon. Omar Ceesay, former GDC spokesperson, and Tina Faal former GDC Deputy Party leader are for the first time excluded from the new executive. While the party welcomes new faces like Abdoulie Jallow as GDC’s new spokesperson.

Former GDC National Youth President, MC Cham Jr was convinced by the council of elders to take the position of a Campaign Manager.
