Momodou Sabally, Campaign Manager of the Opposition United Democratic Party could spend the rest of his trial at Mile II prison if charged with treason, supporters of the Opposition United Democratic Party, family members, and sympathizers of the detained campaign manager of United Democratic Party told The Voice during a protest at Westfield who went out on Sunday to show solidarity demanding for his release.
Mr. Sabally is yet to be charged with any offence as police continue to mount investigations into his video comment which went viral causing a threat to the Barrow administration.
However, in an interview with the press, Sabally’s attorney said he may like be charged with treason which is not bailable but promised to challenge the extension of his detention at the court.
Barely six days after his arrest, a handful of youth from the United Democratic Party and activists marched onto the street chanting “Never Again Slogan” demanding his unconditional release.
The peaceful protest later turned violent when the police used tear gas to disperse the protesters causing injuries to many protesters while others were rushed to hospital.
“We demand the unconditional release of Sabally and an end to political persecution. This attack on Sabally is political persecution and a betrayal of the ultimate sacrifice the likes of Solo Sandeng made in 2016 to end dictatorship,”
