Tujereng Sports Committee in collaboration with the Village Olympic Committee last Saturday held a one-day athletic competition at the Tujereng Football field.
Speaking at the Athletic Sports Day, Yusupha Sanyang one of the organisers of the event disclosed that Tujereng athletic sports day was mainly sponsored by the village Alkalo, Karamo S. Bojang, and the Village Development Committee to groom young athletes who will compete in both national and international athletic competitions.
“We are working hard to create an athletic environment for the inhabitants of this community and we are hoping to continue in this endeavor,” he added.
However, he called on other stakeholders, philanthropists, and NGOs to support them in grooming young athletes who will compete in both national and international competitions for the country,”
Lamin S. Bojang, the principal of Fongam Skill Training Institute also stressed the importance of athletics saying it helps to unite people of different cultures. ‘It is my wish to see youths of this community competing in sports,’ he expressed.
Sainey Sonko emerged 1st in the 5 kilometers marathon and was given a cash prize of D2000, Musa Sowe who came out 2nd received D1500 while Modou Lamin Jabang and Yankuba Sonko emerged 3rd and 4th received D1000 and D500 respectively.
However, on the field track events, Leicester City emerged 1st with 236 points and they were given a cash prize of D3000 as winners while Jungle Tigers received D2500 as runners-up who gathered 226 points.
