The Select Committee of the Opposition United Democratic Party recently met at the party’s bureau at Manjai to select candidates for the one hundred and twenty wards for the upcoming Local Government Elections. A total of ninety-two candidates were nominated and confirmed to contest in the eight administrative areas across the country.
The candidates contesting for the eight administrative areas are listed as follows:
Banjul – 9 Candidates
Kanifing – 19 Candidates
Brikama – 19
Kerewan – 12
Mansakonko – 11
Kuntaur – 3
Janjanbureh – 12
Basse – 7
Meanwhile as part of the party’s principle and participation of all gender in politics the party encourages female participation in politics; so far 8 female candidates have been selected and confirmed as follows:
Banjul – 3
Kanifing – 2
Brikama – 2
Mansakonko – 1
The process according to the Administrative Secretary for Media and Communication of the party, Tombong Saidy will continue for the remaining twenty-eight wards and hope to have more female candidates.
