The Attorney General and Minister of Justice Dawda A. Jallow said the Government of the Gambia under the leadership of President Adama Barrow is committed to ensuring that what happened to Sandeng will not be repeated.
Justice Minister made this statement at the recent tribute service of late Ebrima Solo Sandeng in Banjul.
Justice Minister on behalf of the president at the tribute service said “We cannot bring back the loss love one’s but we are committed to ensuring that what happened to Solo will never happen in this country that we owe to Solo.
He continued: “We are committed to safeguarding the legacy of Solo sandeng and we therefore will not relent in our efforts, we can only strive to do better and continue to strengthen the work done towards achieving the system that is built on the foundation of the rule of law, democracy, strong institutions good governance and justice.”
Justice Jallow added that the nation lost Solo to an aborting atrocity metted on him and the country wish to remember him as somebody who fought for his country with great sacrifice, braveness, determination, and patriotism.
Meanwhile, Justice Jallow described late Solo Sandeng as a catalyst to the new found democracy, “he inspired the masses to expressly desire and vote for change and freedom, Solo’s legacy has inspired us in our current security sector reforms and the transitional justice process as a whole”
He said Sandeng however demonstrated his passion for democracy, education, social justice and human rights through various institutions he rendered his invaluable support to.
“Irrespective of our political affiliations and differences and after six long years, we as a nation are gathered to finally give Solo the befitting burial he deserves. Therefore, on behalf of President Adama Barrow and the government of the Gambia once again we wish to extend our condolence to the Sandeng family, friends and love once and everyone who is here to remember and honour him.”
