A renowned Ghanaian Naturopathic Professor, Medical and science writer, Prof. Raphael Nyarkotey Obu, has conferred with the National Traditional Healers Association of The Gambia (TRAHASS) to familiarize himself with the traditional healers, and possibly future collaboration to help transform the practice of natural medicine to meet international standard. The meeting was held at the TRAHASS office at Brikama.
During the meeting, the traditional healers raised many challenges they faced in their practice. Some of the challenges raised were lack of government support, standardization, funding, education, capacity building of practitioners, legislation, and many others. The executive team of TRAHASS was impressed with the support and immediate strides by Prof. Raphael Nyarkotey Obu in these few days in the Gambia.
They were also pleased with his scientific articles in the National Papers which have made a great impact on the system.
The President of TRAHASS, Salieu Puye, thanked Prof. Nyarkotey for his humanitarian works, and for promoting African naturopathy.
The Practitioners also requested that prof. Nyarkotey consider giving scholarships to some of their practitioners and children to study at his Naturopathic University College in Ghana.
On his part, Prof. Raphael Nyarkotey Obu has offered the practitioners scholarship opportunities to study Naturopathy and Holistic Medicine at his university in Ghana. Prof. Nyarkotey is the President of Nyarkotey University College of Holistic Medicine, Ashaiman, Ghana, a recognized natural medicine school by the Traditional Medicine Practice Council, Ministry of Health.
