Flood victims said they feel neglected by the government as they failed to address their problems for the past two years.
Speaking to this medium during the weekend, Habibou Mboob, a resident of Nema-Sukuta said he was victimised by flood for two years which caused him a lot of setbacks for the past years.
“My tailoring workshop flooded and most of my machines got spoiled and only Allah knows how I’m able to cope with this untimely disaster,” the distraught victim told this medium.
He pointed out that the main reason responsible for the flooding is the bad roads constructed in their area and therefore called on the government to intervene and provide remedies to the problem.
“I recalled that President Adama Barrow visited the area when the place was affected and he promised to implement a project in December 2022 to tackle the problem but we see no project,” he said.
Another victim, Anna Mendy, a businesswoman in Brikama said, “I am a dealer in different types of clothes and shoes, and most of my properties were damaged by the flood but glory is to God hence we lost no life. I did not receive any support from the government and even though there was the support given to others, I was not aware.”
She emotionally explained how the flood destroyed and caused grave setbacks to her business and other valuable properties.
Binta Baldeh, another victim also explained a similar story and appealed to the government to provide water channels to ensure that the water moves away from their communities to the river bank when it rains.
