Renewed fighting near the Gambia-Casamance frontier has been building a humanitarian situation in some Gambian communities.
The latest hostilities between the Senegalese troops and MFDC separatists were said to be centered on the Kandialoun area of Casamance, which is just near the frontier.
The Voice is concerned about the line of humanitarian challenges that this latest upsurge in fighting could present to some Gambian communities near the epicenter of the Senegalese onslaughts.
Some school children near the theatre of the fighting were already staying at home; so traumatized and afraid to return to school.
Farming and horticultural activities have also ceased in some areas near the frontier as a result of the latest Senegalese offensive.
We hope the government and humanitarian organizations are keeping an eye on the developing humanitarian situation near the frontier.
