Queen Scorpions, of the Gambia opened its Group B campaign in the WAFU Zone A Women’s football tournament with a massive 4-1 thrashing against Sierra Leone Saturday at Stade Mercelo Leitor in Sal, Cape Verde.
Youngster Catherine Jatta scored all of Gambia’s goals, the first-of-kind feat in the history of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Jatt scored the fastest goal of the tournament history with a little over a minute on the clock to put the Women’s Scorpions in the lead. The Police FC forward added her second making it two before the break to keep Sierra Leone at bay
The player of the match resumed adding two more goals to earn her the quadruple while the Sierra Queens managed to pull only one back as consolation. Catherine was voted the most outstanding player decorated by Wafu with a deserved award.
Coach Mariama Bom Sowe brought in Fatoumatta Jammeh, Mamie Sey, Fatoumatta Erma, and Kaddy Jarju to earn their debut in the second half when the Gambia would complete the full time academically.

The Gambia will return on Monday 23rd January 2023 against defending Champions Senegal who was 4-0 winners over Guinea in today’s earlier game.
