Mamadi Sarr and Lamin Jarjue on Tuesday appealed before the Kanifing High Court presided over by Justice I Janneh to shorten their jail term.
The appeal of Lamin and Mamadi came shortly after the two were charged with theft at the Kanifing Magistrate Court respectively.
Mamadi in his appeal before the court said he accepted all the charges imposed on him, but he is appealing to the court to reduce the jail term imposed on him.
In his testimony, he told the court “My dad passed away when I was young, my mother too passed away while I am serving my sentencing. I am married with three children and the family of my wife is not strong enough to help with the upkeep of the family while I am away.”
As the State Council was not present at the time of the appeal, Justice I Janneh adjourned the matter to the 21st of February 2023 at 11:30 am to hear from the prosecution.
Meanwhile, Lamin Jarjue who was also charged by the Kanifing magistrate court pleaded that his father is sick, his mother passed away while he is serving his jail term and his brother cannot take care of their sick dad alone.
In his testimony, he told the court “I regret what I have done, so I am pleading with the court to have mercy. As it is my white friend oversee entrusted me with a house and there are a lot of valuable materials there and anything can happen to them while I am away.”
Justice I Janneh said in the absence of the prosecution the matter is adjourned to 21st February at noon.
