As Eight Aspiring Candidates Challenge Sheriffo Sonko

At least eight aspiring candidates have submitted their application to contest for the National People’s Party (NPP) for the Brikama Area Council (BAC) Chairmanship for the upcoming Local Government Elections, The Voice can authoritatively report.
Among the aspiring candidates who submitted their application under the ticket of the National People’s Party are: the party’s leading propagandist Ahmad Gitteh of Kitty village, Lamin M. Bojan Jambour village, Lamin Bass Bojang Brufut village, Lamin Conateh , Tujereng village, Alhagie Janneh , Old Yundum village, Basiru Darboe, TujerengFulakunku, Seedy Ceesay Brufut, and Dr Tamsir Jassey, SanchabaSulayJobe.
Anonymous sources within the NPP confirmed the submission of the application of the eight aspiring candidates to this medium for possible consideration for the party’s upcoming primary nomination of Mayoral, Chairmanship and Councillorship
According to an insider, the incumbent Chairman of Brikama Area Council, SheriffoSonko and Alhagie Janneh of Old Yundum will not be contesting for the seat even though their application letters have been submitted,challenging the current chairman who has lost popularity in the region.
Another source within the party who also spoke on condition of anonymity said there are lot of interference emanating from President Adama Barrow regarding the selection of candidates, noting that the President has already engaged Alhagie Janneh of Old Yundum Constituency among other candidates with the view to convince them to cancel their applications for the chairmanship.
“So far eight aspiring candidates including the current chairman of the region, Sheriffo Sonko have submitted their applications to contest under the NPP ticket. However, not everything is rosy because I can tell you that there is a lot of background work to convince some of the aspirants to drop their application,” an insider disclosed.
He added: “I can tell you that even though SheriffoSonko has applied to contest, he will not contest. Alhagie Janneh of Old Yundum and two other candidates will not also be at the primary as they have been advised by the President to drop their applications.”
