The commissioner General of The Gambia Revenue Authority, Mr. Yankuba Darboe has assured the authority’s effort to collect much needed revenue for national development and will not compromise non-tax compliant.
Taking stock of the significant amount of D15.2 billion revenue collected by the authority this year, Commissioner General Darboe further assured his office’s relentless effort to ensure that the revenue collected is purposely for national development.
He appealed for the cooperation and understanding of companies and individuals engaging into business and generating income to pay their taxes to avoid interruption.
He made this statement while addressing importers and clearing agents during the opening ceremony of a two -day training on Post Clearance Audit for auditors.
According to CG Darboe GRA is committed to make a paradigm shift toward tax defaulters this year since the country is a tax based economy.
He also warned those that are engaging in businesses and are not forthcoming to regularise their tax obligation, saying penalty will be instituted against those for non-tax compliance.
According to CG Darboe couple of years ago GRA was advised by their development partners to introduce POST Clearance Audit instead of the jacking sessions which necessitated the training.
According to GRA Boss the most places that you go for training is the PCA which was the jacking section and in most cases you spent two to three years there then you go for other postings within GRA.
Mr. Darboe is optimistic that the training will greatly help participants to know more about their roles and mandates as audit officials
