Alagie Janneh, a prominent Youth Leader and aspiring candidate for the National People’s Party (NPP) for the Brikama Area Council (BAC) chairmanship has confirmed that he is no longer aspiring for the position of chairmanship.
He made this disclosure to this medium barely six days before President Adama Barrow’s NPP select it’s candidate to contest for the BAC chairmanship position.
Mr. Janneh said his decision to withdraw comes after engaging with President Adama Barrow and other senior party executives in order to give ways to others who are still interested to opt for the position.
This development comes on the heels of the continuous publication of the former aspiring candidate’s name on the long list of the NPP aspiring candidates who submitted their application to contest under the National People’s Party (NPP) ticket for the Brikama area council (BAC) chairmanship.
Among the aspiring candidates who submitted their application to the National People’s Party includes the party’s leading propagandist Ahmad Gitteh of Kitty village, Lamin M. Bojang of Jambour village, LaminBasseBojang of Brufut village, LaminConateh of Tujereng village, AlhagieJanneh of Old Yundum village, Basiru Darboe of TujerengFulakunku, Seedy Ceesay of Brufut and DrTamsirJassey of sanchabaSulayJobe.
“I want to put it on record that I’m no longer aspiring to select for the NPP candidature for the upcoming Brikama Area Council (BAC) Chairmanship election. I have withdrawn my application after fruitful engagements with the Party Leader and Secretary General of the party and the party executives,” Mr. Janneh told The Voice.
He added: “I have made my position very clear to the regional selection committee but my name keep up coming in their list and am not sure this is fear. I have made my decision not to aspire for selection and I see no reason why my name has to keep on coming even though my position is known to all.”
He emphasised that the decision is not because of unpopularity but meant to fostering unity and understanding within the party’s ranks and files, arguing that he is more popular and connected in the region than any of the aspiring NPP candid for the region and has more chances of winning than any of the them.
“I can proudly boast that am more popular, connected and involved with the people of West Coast Region (WCR) than any of the aspiring candidates. The records are available to confirm my position as am the only one who manages to campaign and win for a seat for the party in the past election, it is only in Old Yundum Constituency where NPP won and I have been in the forefront of this victory,” Alagie Janneh submitted.
He concluded: “I want to advice the selection committee to be very mindful in the ways and manner they will be selecting a candidate for the region because there is stupendous task ahead. We should avoid mistakes went conducting the selected that is slated for next Sunday because any mistake made will make the campaign very tiring and demanding.”
