Ebrima Janko Solo Touray, popularly known as Kombonka, the king of Manding rap, will release a new album on March 11, 2023, at Q-City, The Gambia. The album is called “Silakang,” which is Mandingo’s word for “streets.” His first album, Yalong Ngallong, was awarded the album of the year at the 2022 Wah Sa Halat Music Awards. Kombonka’s second album, “Silakang,” is set to release on February 24, 2023. The album contains 12 tracks and a total of 38 minutes and 44 seconds of listening. This well-produced and lyrically outstanding album includes collaborations with Senegambian superstars such as Jizzle, Kaby, Attack, and Gambian King of Kora, Jaliba Kuyateh.
Malang Fatty, CEO of GSC Records, is the executive producer of this culturally distinct album. Some of the instrument players who worked on the album include Ansumana Suso, a renowned Gambian Kora, and Balafong maestro; Ibou Mbaye, a Senegalese keyboard player; Nigerian guitarist Femi Leye, and Romanian violinist Joylin.

Ebrima Touray, popularly known as “Kombonka,” was born in Madina Salam, The Gambia. He is
Gambian rappers are widely regarded as the de facto leaders of Manding rap in Senegambia. Often
known as “The King of Manding Rap,” Kombonka started his music careeras a performing artist in the music scene back in 2012 after recording hisfirst song in 2013.
He went on to perform on various platforms andevents both within the Gambia and beyond. In 2016, during the peak of the
backward journey syndrome, like many other African youth seeking a better life, he also embarked on the perilous “Back Way Journey” to Libya, hoping to enter Europe through the Mediterranean Sea in search of greener pastures.
This did not sit well with him, as he had been imprisoned in Libya for 7 years. Upon his release in 2017, Kombonka joined the
The Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) program from Libya, facilitated by
by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and return to theGambia.
Despite the fact that it was already a difficult decision to come back home,
Kombonka returned home empty-handed after a failed attempt to enter Europe.
He was faced with so many other struggles as a musician in a family that was not very
accepting of his career and having access to a quality studioProduction, performance, and promotion were also challenges.
In 2019, Kombonkasigned to a newly established record label called GSC Records.
