Alhagie K. Mbye is GRA News Commissioner of Customs

Alhagie K. Mbye, Deputy Commissioner of Operation at the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has been promoted to the position of Commissioner of Customs following the retirement of Mr. Ismalia Jallow, former holder of the position.

 Mr. Yankuba Darboe, Commissioner General Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) described the outgoing Commissioner of Customs as Mr. Ismalia Jallow’s hardworking staff with immense contribution to the institution.

Commissioner General Darboe informed Commissioner of Customs Alhagie Mbye of his task ahead, while he challenged all GRA staff to unite in the best interest of the institution. 

In his brief statement, he noted that the GRA works with a team spirit, namely; hard work, dedication, and perseverance, while assuring Mr, Mbye his support to deliver up to the expectation of the Authority.

He tasked junior staff to be cooperative and work hand in hand with the rest of the staff to achieve the Authority goal,  while commended GRA Board and Management staff for providing a conducive environment for its staff to deliver up to expectation.

Mr. Alhagie K Mbye

Mr. Mbye hails from Farrafenni Town, North Bank Region of The Gambia where he attended primary education from 1978 to 1983. After sitting and passing the then “common entrance” exams in 1983, he proceeded to Muslim High School in Banjul. He got appointed in the Customs department after sitting to the o levels in Muslim High School. Mr. Mbye has since acquired a wealth of knowledge during a combined period of 33 years at the Customs and Gambia Revenue Authority.

Alhagie K Mbye obtained a bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Public Administration from the University of The Gambia from 2014 to 2018. Continuing his studies, he also attained a Master of Science (MSc) in the same field from the University of The Gambia in 2021. Commissioner Mbye has served in various capacities and postings in his Customs career including the seaport, Airport, land borders, warehouse, and Technical Support among others.
