The Gambia coach Abdoulie Bojang says he is impressed with his team’s performance against Benin in their group match of the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Young Scorpions boss made ten changes to the team that beat Zambia 2-0 retaining only captain Alagie Saine to the side.
The new look team managed to secure a 1-0 victory courtesy of a late own goal by Tamimou Ouorou after Mansour Mbye’s header was saved by the keeper.
“It was a difficult match as was expected,” Bojang said.
“Everyone understood our philosophy so that gave us the win we deserved. I’m impressed by their performance.”
The West Africans will face debutants South Sudan in the quarter-finals on Friday, 3 March in Alexandria.
“Now our focus is on South Sudan which is standing between us and the World Cup,” the former Scorpions midfielder said
“We know the records but we are here to set our own records both as individuals and as a nation.
“As a coach I also want to leave a legacy. I want to make my CV. I want to show the whole country what I am capable of doing.
“There’s no pressure on me but I am trying to set a legacy and make my own record as a coach.”
