A two-week African Organization of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) on the revised Financial and Compliance audit manuals for implementation within respective Supreme Institutions in The Gambia on Monday at a local hotel
The two-week workshop aims towards bringing best practice, and the way audit is conducted in various countries by using the manual to bring consistency, uniformity, and brainstorming on the challenges.
Mr. Modou Ceesay, Auditor General of The Gambia said, the rollout strategy of these revised manuals by AFROSAI-E through sub-regional workshops is to discuss, share and learn from one another in terms of use and lessons learned from the application of the manuals.
“I, therefore, implore all participants here present to make sure we also have our internal rollout strategy to train and build the capacity of the rest of our audit teams on these manuals from knowledge gained from this two-week interaction. This will further smoothen the implementation of these manuals in our respective audits.”
However, the Auditor General also highlighted the importance of the manuals to their work, adding perhaps it is not necessary but just to reinforce that it is an onus on them in ensuring that they learn and familiarize themselves with these manuals as they are our working tools and would determine the quality of their audits.
“Capacity-building initiatives should and must always be central in our operational planning and manifested in the audit products and services that we produce,” he said.
Bakary Trawally, Director of audit Municipalities and Area councils stated that the workshop for audit institutions English speaking in Africa is a subsection of that organization which is a sub-regional one consisting of English-speaking countries Gambia, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Ghana.
Director Trawally expressed gratitude saying the audit manual are always revised to make sure that the standards are captured at any time, noting the significance of bringing people from different sub-region to discuss the best practice, and the way they are conducting their audit by using the manual to bring consistency and uniformity is something appreciable.
However, he said, “We will see the people from Ghana and other African countries see how we approach when it comes to certain issues from there we brainstorm and move forward.”
