Abubacarr Bayo, the deputy party leader of the Gambia Action Party (GAP), one of the opposition parties in the country, has disclosed that the President of the Republic, His Excellency Adama Barrow does not hold any moral capacity to deal with alleged corrupt practices in the local councils.
The GAP deputy party leader expressed this in an interview via telephone saying the leadership of the party has looked into the scale of corruption ongoing within the government system, and he said the president is not treating the matter with a high degree of seriousness. He alleged that the president has manifested this in his recent utterance about audit reports.
He lashed out at the president for failing to reactive the anti-corruption bill which he said is currently left idle on the desk of the National Assembly gathering dust.
He noted that President Barrow heavily compromised corruption in his government, adding few projects being implemented by the government were visibly undermined due to the corrupt practices of government officials who are entrusted to oversee its execution. These projects, he said, include Airport projects, feeder roads projects, and OIC projects among others.
He pointed blame fingers at what he described as so-called technocrats who display their party colors in their line of duty thus undermining the interest of the country.
Speaking about GAP’s participation in the forthcoming local government election, he said GAP as a political party has not identified any potential aspirant to contest in various wards in the Kanifing Municipality but to capitalize on their strong base in the rural Gambia which they are optimistic of victory.
He stated that GAP forms a tactical alliance with Talib Bensouda for local government election to ensure his re-election to continue the good work he started for the municipality
