Talib Bensouda ends tour

By Binta Jaiteh

Talib Ahmed Bensouda, Mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council on Tuesday ended its mayoral tour which began on the 19th of February 2023.

During the tour, Mayor Bensouda vowed to fulfill the issues raised by the people in the Kanifing Municipal Council.

Addressing the residents of Bundung at Bundung Six Junction last week, he said politics is a matter of thinking it doesn’t need violence and insults because the Gambia is a small country so “we should all be mindful.”

According to him in the Gambia, you cannot know a person but tomorrow you might need his or her service.

He noted that United Democratic Party has more councilors in the Municipality but decided to engage another councilor from another party to show people how politics works and that have caused a debate and confusion to most people.

With that system, since then everyone came together which led to the rapid development of KMC, he said.

“Gone are the days when the Bundung’s nightmare was the issue of waste management even the President was surprised at the last set-settal. This is because KMC was cleaned before NEA announced the set-settal. I didn’t say that issue of waste is eradicated totally but under my leadership, I boost that a lot and it’s been achieved,” he said.

The Mayor disclosed that in a survey by one institution between KMC, Banjul City Council, and Brikama Area Council KMC collected 80% of waste while BAC collects only four percent.

However, he said, KMC wants to change the gear and start road development “through our projects the issue of roads will be addressed.”

Aboubacarr Sillah, the sitting ward councilor said the tour is not a political gathering but a gathering which guaranteed the Mayor to visit the electorates every year
