Action Africa Foundation is planning to build an orphanage and education center for less privileged children in Brikama, West Coast Region.
This was disclosed recently to this reporter by the Executive Director of the Foundation, Mr. Yahya DK, Faye, at the Foundation’s office along Kombo Sillah Highway in Serrekunda.
Faye, a Gambian IT specialist based in the United States, says he is moved by the unfortunate circumstances of many people especially children in The Gambia in particular and Africa in general.
“It is very disheartening seeing children accompanying their parents as they go about begging; it is very disheartening seeing children going hungry and lacking the necessities of life. It is very disheartening seeing some children unable to attend school due to poverty,” he said.
Mr. Faye explained that the orphanage will comprise boys’ and girls’ residential facilities and will operate general services that a standard orphanage home is expected to offer and take care of orphans, abandoned children, and children whose parents are unable to properly take care of them.
“It is meant to provide a home for those who need love and care, and give them a better life,” he added.
He further explained that the educational center will comprise nursery and primary schools and will operate a scholarship scheme for the benefit of children from very poor backgrounds.
The Action Africa Foundation Prezy disclosed that his philanthropic activities in The Gambia started way back in 2021 when he started giving out materials such as shoes, clothes as well as cash to indigent people in rural parts of the country. He added that he also donated educational materials to schools and madrassas.
Faye said the goal of Action Africa Foundation is to improve the livelihood of orphans and other less privileged children, people living with disabilities as well as indigent youths, women, adults, and residents of slums and other poor communities in The Gambia and Africa.
“The Foundation will as well execute poverty alleviation projects, especially in agriculture and food security, distribute relief materials to the poor and disaster victims, promote health, gender balance, and women empowerment projects, identify, plan, and manage community projects aimed at promoting quality of life and the socio-economic welfare of people,” he added.
