By Nicholas Bass

The Assistant Superintendent of Police, Jelly C. Senghore, on Thursday disclosed the intention of the alleged coup plotters at Banjul High Court presided over by Justice Basiru VP. Mahoney.

Jelly C. Senghore disclosed to the court that he was part of the investigation panel who were set by the President Barrow government to investigate the matter of the alleged coup plotters which involved Lance Corporal Sanna Fadera, Petty Officer Gibril Darboe, Corporal Ebrima Sannoh, Omar Njie and Sub-inspector Fabakary Jawara and others were arrested and charged after a thorough investigation.

PW6, Jelly C. Senghore disclosed to the court that he wrote the cautionary and voluntary statements of the 2nd and the 4th accused, Gibril Darboe and Omar Njie where an independent witness was invited for transparency.

The lead state prosecutor, Counsel AM Yusuf at this juncture pleaded for the said statements of Gibril Darboe and Omar Njie to be admitted as exhibits and they were admitted as exhibits in their file.

However, the state witness Jelly C. Senghore alleged that the 1st accused, Lance Corporal Sanna Fadera told one Karamo Jatta of his intention of salvaging the country from the hardship.

Counsel Lamin S. Camara raised a strong objection against the said allegation against his client saying ”it was a third-party statement.”

Counsel L. S. Cmara went on to argue that such a statement implies that his client (Sanna Fadera) was intending to overthrow the government of Adama Barrow, and applied to the court to dismiss the said allegation for it is unlawful for such to be said by PW6 in his testimony as evidence against his client.

Justice Basiru VP Mahoney at this juncture, granted the application of the defense counsel before he called it a day for an adjournment to the 3rd April 2023 for continuation.
