The Commissioner General of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has assured that his office is optimistic about achieving its annual revenue target of D15.2 billion for the year.
CG Yankuba Darboe made this assurance in his office on Tuesday while updating the media on the current collected revenue.
Despite all challenges, he said, for the first time in the history of the country, GRA recorded a monumental tax revenue collection of D1.5 Billion in March 2023.
According to him, this is the highest tax revenue netted in a month in the country. “Thanks to the management and staff of GRA for the commitment, dedication, and professionalism to their work,” he appreciated his staff.
He confirmed that in March, the GRA collected D1.5 billion, saying they were able to achieve it due to the level of compliance from the Business companies, the contribution of the media, as well as dedication and commitment, and teamwork from his staff.
He explained the procedure of payment saying March ending is the final tax payment for 2022, and during the cause of the year, people will come forward with their corporate and income tax on a quarterly base which is like an advance payment.
According to CG Darboe every March ending is always special for them because it is the year that GRA wraps up everything and their collections go very high, and the reason behind the success of GRA is teamwork, dedication, and commitment.
He cited that his staff is very cooperative when it comes to doing their work and at the level of GRA “We have a command that everybody follows from the CG to DCG to the directors and the rest of the staff. So we are always together, work like a family.”
Meanwhile, he praised the taxpayers for the voluntary level of tax compliance that prompted GRA to collect the much-needed revenue over the years.
