By Binta Jaiteh

Baba Abubakarr Drammeh, the former President of Rawdatul Majaalis and also former Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has urged Gambian Businessmen to de-escalate the prices of basic commodities in this Holy Month of Ramadan. Adding that, it is not only for humanity’s sake but also from the perspective of fear of the Almighty Allah.

Speaking to The Voice, Alhaji Drammeh revealed that, Ramadan is the most significant month of the Muslim calendar, and is the third pillar of Islam.

In this month, he said, the Muslims are keen to do good deeds because the rewards of good deeds are redoubled.

He explained that in the Holy Month of Ramadan, the doors of Heaven are opened and the doors of the hellfire are closed, Satan is in chains. More so, it is a month of not only kindliness and generosity but also a month of sacrifice by making life easier and even more pleasant for those who live on from hand to mouth.

The former Diplomatic and the Chief Imam of Foni Sintet Imam Drammeh said, “Reading the Quranic verses and prophetic traditions, we should be able to learn about what is beneficial for mankind in this world and also in the hereafter.”

He reminded businessmen to bear in mind that the day of reckoning is inevitable. Therefore, the fear of Allah is the only way to be saved from hellfire. “We should avoid cheating, stealing, and overpricing at the expense of low-income earners, the poor, and the needy. In particular, this holy month of Ramadan.”

The Prophet Muhammad has clearly stated that “None of you shall have a perfect belief unless you love for your brother what you love for yourself,” he added.

In his opinion, he said, the stakeholders, and parties responsible for import/export should bear in mind that this holy month of Ramadan requires them to de-escalate not escalate the prices of basic commodities and necessities of life, especially for the poor and the needy of the Gambian population.
