WHIPSO Gambia, in partnership with its parent body WHIPSO Germany has donated 1.7 million food items to needy Gambians across the country during the 2023 Holy month of Ramadan.

The charity foundation supported needy Muslims within Sukuta with over 250 food packages during the beginning of the Holy month of Ramadan but last Thursday supported another 170 who initially did not benefit from the gesture.

The foundation also slaughtered 25 aqiqas goats as thanksgiving to Allah for funders for what Allah has done for them during the past year. The aqiqas were distributed to 175 beneficiaries within Kombo.

WHIPSO foundation also supported communities such as Faraba, Gunjur, Jarra Soma, Barrow Kunda, Basse, Fatoto, and Nuimi with food packages during the month of fasting for Muslims.

Muhammed Nyan, Chief Executive Officer of WHIPSO Gambia charity foundation said their target is supporting the deeply needy regardless of ethnicity, gender, political affiliations, or religious beliefs.

“We are just reaching out to those who cannot put food on their tables, especially during the Holy month of Ramadan,” he said while thanking their funders for ensuring they can support needy Gambians.

He said the foundation has supported the country’s main referral hospital, Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital by providing 9 tanks and compressors worth half a million dalasi for its NAWEC water supply, noting they want to replicate such in the provincial Gambia.

“The foundation has built four classrooms for an evicted Arabic school along the Sukuta highway, sponsored at least 10 boreholes for schools and communities across the country, and also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, boosted the water capacity at Sukuta Horticultural Garden at the tune of D1.1M, among other initiatives.”

However, Yassin Touray, a native of Sinchu Balya and beneficiary of the foundation’s latest generosity thanked them and their funders for the gesture she said came at a time she needed it.

She pointed out things have been so hard for her during the Holy month of Ramadan but noted that WHIPSO’s intervention will make the remaining days of Ramadan easy for her and appealed to others to emulate WHIPSO Gambia by supporting the needy.

Meanwhile, WHIPSO was founded in 2018 to assist and support development initiatives for the good of everyone regardless of ethnicity, gender, political affiliations, or religious beliefs.

It specifically supports projects that are of long-term benefit to the world.
These support areas include above all education and sustainability projects that create lasting solutions, such as the construction of schools, boreholes, and orphanages.

The foundation has also been giving a helping hand in many other areas of the country. Its support has been directed at such areas as education, water supply, infrastructure, agriculture, medical supplies and facilities, environmental protection, and Ramadan aid for the needy, among others.
