Banjul City Council (BCC) on Wednesday launched the revenue digitization Project that aims to eradicate fraud and increase revenues.
Speaking at a press conference Rohey Marlick Lowe, Mayor of the Banjul City Council said that the council is interested in sustainability.
“When I talk about revenue digitalization it includes the whole process from rates, market, waste, and license,” she said.
She also said the council deemed it necessary to digitalize the revenue, and that the process is the same and the amount remains the same, noting they are moving to digitalization.
“Everyone knows when you depend on paperwork what always happens and the most important is it will maximize revenue. We started this project as a pilot at the market and the revenue increased significantly to 20%,” she noted.
However, she said some people will wonder why now and begin to spread rumors that the system has not changed, adding the only difference is that the council moved to the digital system under her leadership which is an achievement.
She expressed gratitude to all the people who have contributed immensely to make sure that this project is a success after 9 to 10 months with a successful story.
For his part, Hakim Bsina, Managing Director of INNOCO stated that the company is not new, noting it has been in existence since 2018 and they are managing the Brikama Area Council and Basse Area Council.
“We will make sure to give all the technical support to the collectors to make work smooth and to the council, although I am not a Gambian the employees are Gambians and I assured you that fraud will be eradicated and revenue will be enhanced,” he said.
