President Adama Barrow has challenged Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe over the ownership of the Island capital Banjul and vowed to be part of the campaign (Local Government Elections campaign) to support his party candidates.
The Gambian leader made the remarks at Buffer Zone on Sunday, where he said: “I am part of this campaign (Local Government Elections campaign). Seedy if you have a big meeting in Brikama, call me, and I will come and campaign for you. Bakary Badjie, if you have a big meeting, call me, and I will come. Ebou Faye, I want you also to call me when you have a rally in Banjul. My sister said she is ‘Burr’ Banjul, but I will tell her today that I am ‘Burr’ Banjul and ‘Burr’ Gambia. Now it is finished, we will not slow down.”
The National People’s Party leader urged his supporters not to be afraid of anyone. “Let’s beat them in this upcoming election and finish with them. Continue your work. You don’t have anything to be afraid of because we are the ruling party. Don’t be afraid, I am behind you. There’s nothing to be afraid of. The opposition is not afraid, why should I be afraid? You have more votes than them and that is very clear. If we want to have peace in this country, our peace is the NPP and its coalition partners.” he said.
In Banjul, Ebou Faye, National Peoples Party candidate presented his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral Commission regional in Gambia.
He told journalists that if elected he will work to address the flooding issues in Campama Estate or the Tobacco Road area of the capital city.
Bakary Y. Badjie, the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), stated that KMC needs a progressive mayor who can deliver on the needs of the people, and he is confident Kanifing Municipal residents will vote for him.
“I am hopeful that come May 20th, the electorates in the Municipality will give me their votes for very many reasons. One is that they need change, and they want something progressive, they want a mayor who is responsive to the people, who is open to the people, somebody who can be able to understand the needs of the people and work towards addressing them,” he said.
He also said that the people of Kanifing want a mayor who will work closely with the central government to provide the services that the people need
Seedy Ceesay, National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for the Brikama Area Council chairmanship, West Coast Region vowed that he will win the election and take over the West Coast Region considering the support received by him.
“I think we have already won, It is very clear in the crowd and with the support that I have in the leadership of His Excellency Adama Barrow and the party. As far as I am concerned with me, I believe I have listened to the people of the West Coast, some of you may witness that I have had a lot of engagements with all stakeholders on the West Coast, and based on those engagements, I have the firm belief and commitment that I want to serve the needs and the aspirations of the west coast,” said.
Mr. Kebba Dem, National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for the Mansakonko Area Council Chairperson, Lower River Region, said LRR lacks development, and the reason is well known noting that people in the council are not in the same line with the sitting government.
He further said that that is why development is not coming to LRR, adding that he is contesting under the NPP ticket to bring development to LRR.
Saihou Jawara, incumbent chairman of the Central River Region (CRR) and the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate warned that his region is a “no-go area” for opposition parties and described himself as the most popular candidate in this election and that he will win because of the trust that people have in him
