Nuimi National Park, partners organise outreach programmes to promote ecosystem and biodiversity

 Nuimi National Park with support from the EU through Wetland International Africa in Dakar is implementing a 5 months environmental project titled enhancing teacher and student capacity on biodiversity conservation and mangroves. 

The project aimed at preparing future leaders to make sound environment-related decisions.

 The implementor of the project recently organised an outreach programme to mangrove sites for 10 schools drawn from Dasilami Lower and Upper Basic and Kerewan Senior Secondary Schools along the mangrove site near Kerewan Bridge.

 Fabala Kinteh, the Regional Park and Wildlife Officer for NBR said the project creates awareness among students and advocate for change agent in the conservation of biodiversity. 

He added that the pilot scheme would contribute to enabling students to know more about mangroves, planting, and protection of livelihood.

 Hon Bakary Gassama, Dasilami Ward Councillor thanked the organiser for creating space for students to learn more about the ecosystem. He acknowledged that the depletion of forest cover remains a challenge and reiterated the need for the protection of wetlands from illegal activities.

Sarjo Manneh, Manager of Nuimi National Park disclosed that the exposure is part of piloting a project aimed at creating awareness of biodiversity conservation to the public as core mandates of DPWM.

 He, however, noted the protection of biodiversity and conservation of the mangrove marine resources along the wetland.

 Mr. Manneh called on school authorities to be vigilant, noting that the move aimed to strengthen the capacity of students on different types and benefits of mangroves on the ecosystem approach.

 Pateh Sisay Manager of Jokadou National Park, and Adama Camara, a teacher from Jokadou Dasilami among others commented on the outreach programmes.
