The National Youth Council of The Gambia (NYC) under the leadership of its executive director, Alagie Jarjue, conducted leadership training for the newly elected youth leaders which composed of the regional youth and district committees in all the administrative areas of The Gambia from 30th of May to 6th June respectively .
This training was part of the council’s quest to empowering regional structures on effective coordination, advisory services and counselling, it brought together 200 participants and was funded by Gambia German advisory Centre.
Basiru Gaye, Project Coordinator of the National Youth Council dilated on the training agenda saying it focused on building the capacity of the participants for effective service delivery. This includes the National Youth Policy, youth Act, leadership, time management and change management among other issues. He noted that the participants are newly elected into the office to serve the interest of the young people within their areas which required a step down training to enhance and prepare them for the task ahead.
Mr. Gaye advised the trainees to effectively use the skills impacted in them for efficient service delivery, saying the National Youth Policy 2019-2028 also the National Youth Act of the National Youth Council are legal instruments which every young Gambian needs to read especially these youth leaders that are in leadership roles for young people .
The National Youth Council was established through an Act of the Parliament , since then it has been proactively involved in designing capacity building training for the various youth structures in the country also help coordinate all the youth lead projects in the interest of young people .
