At least fifteen (15) staff under the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative Reforms, Policy Coordination and Delivery on Monday, June 19, 2023, commenced a five-day capacity-building training on administrative survey skills and mechanisms for averting deficiencies in the public service dispensations.
The training is underway at the Management Development Institute (MDI) and is organized by the Civil Service Reform and Planning Unit (CSRPU) of the ministry.
Permanent Secretary (PS), Strategic, Policy and Delivery of the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative Reforms, Policy Coordination, and Delivery, Alieu Loum gave the opening remarks and declared the training opened on behalf of the Hon Baboucarr Bouy the Minister of the above-mentioned Ministry.
PS Loum informed participants about the training objectives which include: helping develop the ministry’s staff capacity on research skills and tools, to carry-out relevant and timely surveys, and enhancing the ministry to conduct relevant surveys to inform the policy formation process independently.
“This is envisaged not only to be a mechanism to generate high-quality data but also as an instrument of institutional transformation and helping to support policymakers to design much better policies based on evidence,” PS Loum explained.
According to PS Loum, the training will support the ministry’s mandate to oversee the implementation of Public Service Policies and programmes by improving evidence-based policy formulation and decision-making for timely and quality public service delivery.
PS Loum informed participants that, this is one of the key priorities identified in the Green Recovery-Focused National Development Plan and this tailor-made training program addresses this critical capacity gap.
This training he added will expose participants to the main concepts, methods, and stages for planning and implementing a sample survey, learn by doing all the steps of the survey, and how the different aspects are connected in the survey project.
Director of Civil Service Reform and Planning Unit under the Ministry of Public Service, Sheriff Jallow, and Principal Management Trainer, MDI, Alhaji Sillah Conateh both witnessed the opening ceremony.
