The chairman of the Brikama Area Council, Yankuba Darboe speaking at a victory celebration held in Gunjur earlier this week said, the taxes collected by the Brikama Area Council (BAC) can develop Brikama Administrative Region.
For this to be done, he said, they first have to close the financial loophole, promising that he will close the huge financial loophole at the Brikama Area Council and bring back the taxes that were paid by the people of the West Coast Region to benefit from their tax monies.
“The condition of the Brikama Market in the previous years I don’t want it to continue like that this year. By the grace of Allah that change will happen,” he stated.
Darboe assured that under his leadership BAC will make sure companies that are taking fish out of the country and that of the people who are selling fish to those companies pay tax so that tax can come back to the village for development.
“After all that the youth of the West Coast Region wants to work but they don’t have jobs, the tax that comes from the west coast region comes from somewhere else. If more tax is paid to the Council we can also invest in factories,” he stressed.
