The platform was launched under the project – Boosting post-COVID-19 Economic Recovery and Resilience in The Gambia.”
The platform aims to assist entrepreneurs and enterprises to easily navigate the complexities of formalizing their businesses and get a better comprehension of the importance and benefits of formalization, as well as ease the transition from informal to formal enterprises.
In her remark, the Chief Executive Officer of GCCI, Mrs. SarataConateh, said the project aligns perfectly with the National Employment Policy and Action Plan, 2022-2026, which sets forth an ambitious agenda of creating one hundred and fifty thousand (150,000) jobs over the next five years.
“Through the Business Formalization Platform, we take a significant step towards realizing this vision, the Gambia where every citizen can have a decent living and pursue their dreams,” she expressed.
Mrs. Conateh added that formalizing businesses is not just a legal requirement; it is a catalyst for economic growth, job creation, and empowerment. She assured that the platform will equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge and resources necessary to thrive in an ever-changing business landscape.
“At the GCCI, we firmly believe that the private sector is the driving force behind economic development. It is through the growth and success of our businesses that we create employment, improve livelihoods, and foster prosperity for all. The Business Formalization Platform stands as evidence of our commitment to supporting entrepreneurs on their journey toward success,” she added.
Hon Baboucarr Ousmaila Joof Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment expressed gratitude to the ILO for their support in funding such an important project, especially as part of the post-COVID-19 recovery efforts.
