The Village Development Committee (VDC) of Kombo Lamin headed by the Alkalo Mr. Bakary Babai Bojang has warmed Hon Suku Singhateh to stop the ongoing land demarcation in Lamin.
A recent report disclosed that the former National Assembly member for Lower Baddibu, Hon Suku Singhateh has secured a vast land in Lamin behind St Peters, a place called Site 3 for residence purposes. It is reported that Hon Suku already started demarcating the place.
At a recent conference held in Lamin, the VDC of Lamin said they are not aware of how Hon Suku secured the said land. Alkalo Bakary Babai said “everything should start from my office, I have never seen Hon Suku in my house discussing the said land issue. I just saw on social media that he wants to start development at site 3. This is the biggest disrespect to me and my office. I am told he has a lease but even that I should be aware because everything should start with me.”
He warned the authorities to halt anything they are doing at that land because the Lamin youths are angry and can do anything, adding that, the said land is reserved for a stadium and other playing centers for the youths.
Mr. Jammeh EK Bojang, a member and an adviser, explained the history of the land. According to him the land was returned to the people of Lamin in 1997/98 by the former president but was quick to say that they approached the Brikama Area Council and told them part of the land is for them and that they can do anything with it. He added that they are thinking of creating a national car park in Lamin just like in Dakar.
“We want to build a stadium, and fire service office among other projects. How can one man come from nowhere and say he owns this place? We have reported the matter to the police station and that Hon Suku and his people should not show their face at that land again,” he warned.
Mr. Yusupha Gomez, a member of the VDC, and Mr. Yusupha Sanyang member of the Lamin Sports Development Association were echoing similar remarks at the emergency press conference.
