State Counsel Accuses Sub-Inspector Jawara of Participating in Alleged Coup

By Nicholas Bass

State Counsel M.B. Sowe has accused Sub-Inspector Fabakary Jawara of participating in the alleged coup plot against the Government of President Adama Barrow.

State Counsel M.B. Sowe on Monday before Justice BasiruVP. Mahoney uncovered frequent communication of Sub-Inspector Fabakary Jawara with the alleged coup plot leader, Sanna Fadera, on the 18th of December 2022 whose plan was meant to overthrow the Government of President AdamaBarrow.

Counsel M. B. Sowe told the 5th accused Fabakary Jawarathat his frequent communication with Sanna Fadera was a plan to overthrow the sitting government as recorded in exhibits P9 and P10.

But the accused, Fabakary Jawara, denied the evidence and said that he did communicate with his cousin, Sanna Faderaon a family-related matter, dismissing the testimonies of Mustapha Jabbie and Karamo Jatta who affirmed to the court that he (Fabakary Jawara) was part of the alleged meeting of the coup plot against the Republic of The Gambia.

However, the accused Fabakary Jawara affirmed that he was arrested on the same day with PW4, Mustapha Jabbie, and testified that he had a business transaction with him (Mustapha Jabbie) where he was the middleman that advertised a truck for Mustapha Jabbie, but the business transaction failed because Mustapha Jabbie was unable to pay for the cost of the truck following a heated argument between him and Mustapha Jabbie that hindered their relationship.

State Counsel M. B. Sowe at this juncture alleged that PW4, Mustapha Jabbie was arrested in connection to his frequent communication with the 5th accused, Fabakary Jawararegarding the alleged coup plot against the State.

This did not go well with Fabakary Jawara at the dock which prompted him to deny the allegation of the State Counsel saying it was not the main reason that resulted in the arrest of Mustapha Jabbie.

Meanwhile, Fabakary Jawara struggled to respond to Counsel M. B. Sowe when he alleged that Sanna Fadera admitted to saving his number on his cell phone contact list.

At this juncture, Justice VP Mahoney called it a day and ordered the State Counsels to file a brief of argument within 28 days and it shall be responded to by the defense counsels for adoption before the adjournment date for judgment.
